Hey guys Wink

Since EP2 files were released I have noticed that many of you want to venture into the opening of a private server.

My post is for the sole purpose of informing newcomers about what awaits them.

ABOUT EP2 SERVER FILES..

First of all you need a general knowledge of Linux/Unix Systems -  Do not start what you can not complete; Without the knowledge of the basics of these systems will not get far. You can find many how-to and tutorial about Google that can help you.

Google is your best friend, do not be afraid to ask for his help.

Be aware of what you are about to do - Open a private server carries a high price of money and work; Once your Server is online you will be exposed to all kinds of attacks and it will be only your ability to go up against them.

Remember that LCKB is a developing forum not an emergency room.

Know your game, do not wait for others - it is good that you know perfectly the operation of the game from both the client and server sides. Good tools can definitely help you but it is on your own strength and on your knowledge that you have to rely.

Well, I can now answer the most frequently asked questions that will surely be wondering:

I want to open a private server but do not know what machine to take:
Keep in mind that you have two different choices, a VPS (virtual private server) or root (dedicated server).

Whats the difference from the two?
A VPS is a virtualized space inside a dedicated server. It was created to reduce costs and offer limited resources to the end user. It usually contains 1/10 of the performances that usually has a dedicated server.

A Dedicated Server usually has a very high performances (like a big amount of RAM, HD and CPU), ideal for a free-lag and high performanced server.

I would not have lag in my server, how do?
First, the connectivity of your remote server is important. A good server must first have a good backbone connectivity with a low average ping.
Keep in mind that several factors come into play; Your PC, your connection, the amount of RAM and the configuration of your MySQL DB
.

Where can I find good server vendors?
If you search on Google youll be spoiled for choice. There are many service providers that offer good-medium services.

Help, Im under DDoS attack!
If youve not followed my first guides on learning the fundamentals of Linux and Firewall protection you can switch off your pc and eat a banana; Needless to drive a car without brakes and no steering wheel.
Warning: Many service providers provide an advanced firewall setting, paying several dollars.

I have a problem, ask for help on LCKB :-)
You can do that easily, as long as your post contains the most information possible and has not been previously treated. A good use of the Search function will save you a lot of time and several Warn Points.

I hope to be helpfull, for everything else I am available on my own forum section B)
