Hello all,

Well I have been thinking about this for a long time an im just going to go with it..

I wanted to open a EP1 server but as most of us know the EP1 isn't that stable, well now I think I have some good files which I want to run for a bit an see how stable they really are!!

Anyone is welcome to join on the server but wont think it will be an easy ride.. Its old school EP1

I'm looking for your thoughts on the project an what you think can be done to make it better!

When I have finished this run the database will ofc be wiped but every single person that joins an puts in some effort will be rewarded when I go live with the finished product.

This project is based off this old server project an I give them credits for what i'm currently running:

There will be changes in this run as there are stuff I want to change but I also would like the players input while I change an edit stuff so thats why i'm doing this run.

Enable "Display pointer trails" in mouse properties, this should fix the freezing

"but wont think it will be an easy ride.. Its old school EP1"

The fact that i reached level 15 within 2 minutes determined that was a lie. No idea if your exp curve is going to develop exponentially, but it doesn't seem like oldshool to me. Just a little comparism, back in the old days you got around 1% at the lvl 6 wolves with you being lvl 6 as well. On your server, if I recall this correctly, it took me 2 foxes. So the rate (at least for the level area I tested) approximately 500* the official oldshool rate. No idea if that was intended.

its not intended its beta..

There is a lot of stuff to do, the main reason I put it up was for stability testing an get a good feel for what people come to expect from a ep1 grind server.

Like I said before the db will be wiped when it goes live an changes will be happening over our beta run as we work on the server.

The side project should really to be rewrite the server files from scratch. There's more performance and optimization to be had in doing so. Along with the ability to implement custom features that doesn't strip the game of its Episode 1 feel. You could go back before client version 1185 as well to support an even older version of the game that was far more favorable than later versions. It really doesn't matter how well you can hack up the existing files. They will always be sub par in comparison to a little emulator side project. A good strategy is maintaining a near perfect match to the 1185 client with existing files and base one of the channels off the emulator project. As the emulator progresses players will be able to connect to that channel and give feedback on what's implemented and working and whats broken or exploitable. You can link that particular channel to a separate database for storing new characters so any changes done on the emulator channel doesn't effect their actual characters.
