I absolutely get your drift, LC as a game has gotten stale with time. And it's not easy to pinpoint why. Although I would like to point out that there are definitely potential to make some new content to LC. A storyline could be made by using the existing story of LC (which actually is pretty alright, it's just very underdeveloped) and build off of that. A creative soul could easily make something cool and captivating to enchant people that like to dive into a good story arc.
And yeah I think there were some guides online from Aeria as well, which was very helpful whether you were drop farming, questing etc... But a good and user friendly game will help you understand its core mechanics and gameplay by guiding the players through in game achievments. This could also be done in LC, and I don't mean those hals assed quests in the introduction where you learn to use health potions haha.
Generating mass players might sound absurd, but not impossible. At the very least, I'm pretty confident you could reach a point where you could have a game with a sustainable playerbase. I might have a underlaying guilty pleasure in LC, but that doesnt mean that other people can't enjoy the game? I don't understand where you would get this from? The reality as of now is very different, yes, but that doesn't mean that you can't get new or old people to play a game. Every single new game starts from 0, LC actually has an existing fan base, and that will definitly help from a marketing standpoint.
That's what I don't get with everyone I talk to about this. Everyone is caught up in how things have been and how things are, that they can't see the potential of what could be. And I'm not saying its easy, not saying it will happen over night.... but there is potential, and denying that is crazy to me
