True that.. running the linux UI would just use up more ram an cpu.. I really dont see the point when putty is simple fast an effective.
You dont need Navicat you can just type mysql in the linux command or create a new mysql user with password an set the host to your wan ip
This way you can connect navicat from your home pc directly to your lc database.
