Hello all,
Ive been browsing this forum (also with another account) quite a lot and there always seem to be people who struggle with setting up the actual server and client, often because they dont know how to properly use linux.
Thats why I created this starterpack.
It features:
Hassle-free installation: Only import VM into VirtualBox, and press START, no need to mess around with Apache, MySQL, config files, terminal or gameserver, cashserver, mono etc. Everything setup, you only need to click one button to start or one button to stop
IP TOOL: automatically get your local IP from the server. No need to run ifconfig. Automatically puts your IP into ALL! config files. No need to mess around with newStobm.bin or cashserver.ini
Hamachi already built in, no need to set up manually (also with GUI to easily connect to a network) --> no need for Linux-terminal
Featuring latest GameServer, Database and Fixes (V6 by CDWriter + Zone 12 fix) and other (LoginServer, Helper etc.)
Featuring latest CentOS 6.4 (64bit version, so you can use more than 4GB RAM), with all yum updates and security updates
Featuring included phpmyadmin and registration page
CashServer already set up and running (including mono)
USA Client which is updated to the latest version and then patched. Also includes Nksp-Start-Script. You dont need to patch anything! (Unless you want custom stuff of course) The only thing you need to do is change the IP from sl.dta. Editor for that included as well of course
Virtualbox file is only 1.8GB (regular CentOS is more than 3.4GB), because I removed all useless ***** from CentOS. Now there are only the things necessary for running the server!
Completely NOOB-READY. No linux knowledge required!
If you still seem to have problems, here is a quick set-up-guide:
1. Download VirtualBox latest version (should work on older versions, too though Im not entirely sure)
2. Download the Server Files, unpack them
3. Import the VM appliance:
4. You should be able to keep all the settings and dont need to change anything. You can change the path of the file to another folder/harddrive/etc. if you want.
If you get an error like this, dont worry. Just download the VirtualBox extension package. See downloads section at the end of this thread.
5. Start the virtual machine. Log in to "lastchaos" with the credentials provided at the end of this thread.
6. For the initial setup, run the "LastChaos IP + Config tool". It should automatically detect your internal IP. (In our case 192.168.2.113).
7. Click "Apply this ip to LC server configuration". This will change all the config files accordingly to your IP. If you want to use Hamachi, read the Hamachi Setup-Guide.
8. Unpack the Client. Open the client folder and open the "PonyChaos Editor":
9. Click "Current directory". For Login-Server you enter the IP we just saw from the IP-tool (192.168.2.113). No need to change anything else. Click "SAVE".
10. Now youre ready to start your servers! Go to your VM and open the "LastChaos server start" program. Enter your root password and go!
10. Now start your client using "START LAST CHAOS.bat".
11. Create a new account using the registration page or use the default account.
12. To stop the server, first properly shutdown the Gameserver (Login as a GM/Admin, enter /shutdown [time in sec.] [reason]. For example /shutdown 10 Server Maintainance). This will help prevent any data loss etc. THEN use the "LastChaos Server Stop" tool.
13. Youre ready to use your server and do whatever you like. See below for a quick hamachi tutorial if you want to play with your friends, but dont know any port forwarding.
Hamachi Setup-Guide
1. Open the "Hamachi" tool in your VM.
2. First you need to use "Hamachi Login". If you dont need hamachi anymore, use "Hamachi Logout" (obviously)
3. Press "Hamachi Information" to get your Hamachi IP. Important! Write it down!
4. Open the "LastChaos IP + config tool" and enter the IP to "OTHER IP HERE", then press "Apply different IP"
5. Open your LC Client folder and use the PonyChaos Editor (or any other sl.dta editor you like) and apply the same IP there!
6. Unfortunately you cant CREATE Hamachi networks with this tool (yet). So just create a network on any Windows computer, and join the network by entering the name and password and click "Join Network" (pretty self explanatory). To leave a network, just enter name and password again and press "Leave Network".
7. Any of your friends using hamachi must be connected to the same Hamachi network (obviously) and also do step 5.
8. Have fun playing together.

If you want to update/patch the client manually, do the following:
Download the original USA client:

and extract them to your client folder. If asked, replace any files.
PonyChaos IP Editor can be downloaded from here:

Put it in your Client folder then and then proceed with the instructions. You can use the included one (CheckTool.exe) as well!
