simple question about updating do's and dont's

Hi all, I have a simple question to ask as it would help me a lot in my updating.

1. when i make changes, ie. add items, weapons, etc with itemall editor mobeditors and various other editors do i need to have navicat opened in centos for changes to be written to data bases or can navicat be closed and still write to the data base. The reason i ask is i did changes on game and broke it so wasn't sure of proper way to do what i just described and get the items, mobs in game.

Just need setup navicat connection with the tools then create item and INSERT/UPDATE function on the tools (navicat can be closed if the connection are etablishing)
